Remembrance Sunday 2020

Churchyards

Remembrance Sunday Acts of Remembrance in churchyards come under the Covid regulations for Places of Worship. These can go ahead, in all three Covid tiers, subject to face coverings and social distancing.

Other Public Places

National government has passed a special regulation permitting Remembrance Sunday Acts of Remembrance to go ahead at war memorials in other public places, in all three Covid tiers, and this has been endorsed by the national church. However, Lancashire Resilience Forum, bringing together district councils, and other authorities such as Lancashire Police, has issued its own order forbidding gatherings in public places, for a list of upcoming civic and religious events, including Remembrance Sunday. It is on this basis that the Act of Remembrance in Hornby has had to be redesigned this year, so that it does not include a public gathering around the war memorial, and this has been done on the basis suggested by Royal British Legion.
